Nora Mae Logsdon Newton-Mercer, age 96, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Sunday, (October 8, 2017) at Springview Health and Rehab Center in Leitchfield.

She was born on September 28, 1921 in Grayson County, KY, the daughter of the late Sterling Thomas and Sylvia Meredith Logsdon.

She was a sewing machine operator for Kane Manufacturing. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and growing her flowers. She was a long-time member of New Freedom Church.

She is survived by her son, Murel Newton of Millwood; daughter, Martina Cockriel (Bro. Edward) of Leitchfield; seven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and nineteen great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Wilma VanMeter, and Maggie Decker, both of Leitchfield and Imogene Sandlin of TN; two brothers, David Logsdon and James Logsdon both of Leitchfield.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan Newton, son, Harrell Newton, daughter, Christina Black; grandson, Ricky Cockriel, two great-grandchildren,; brother, Harlen Logsdon, and three sisters, Betty Saltsman, Geneva Decker, and Mildred Newton.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, (October 11, 2017) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Buddy Brooks will be officiating. Burial will be in the Williams Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. (noon) to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.
