Obituary

Norma Jean Bailes Hack, age 91, of Leitchfield, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 22, 2026. She was married to Daymon Hack on May 10, 1952. To this union were born two sons, Ronnie Edward Hack and Michael Wayne Hack.

She was born on June 28, 1935 in Grayson County, KY, the daughter of the late Willie and Rosie Stewart Bailes.

At age 11, she professed faith in God at South Union Baptist Church, and at her death was a member of Brownsville General Baptist Church.

She worked at the front desk at Leitchfield Cleaners for over 30 years, where she encountered and got to know many, many people. Her handwriting was of such unique and elegant style that her boss had her personally write all the name tags for the uniforms used by the public, blue-collar workers.

Her father was a song leader at many churches and, at a very young age, taught Norma Jean shape notes, better known as the Do-Re-Mi’s. She had an excellent ability to sing and sang with the gospel trio The Rhythmaires for many years, who often made appearances on local TV stations and at local events.

In the last year of her life, Norma Jean enjoyed being a resident of Grayson Manor, where she was quite popular and loved by many. She made many friends there, but one in particular was Carolyn DeLong, known as “Tootie”, who will miss her greatly.

She is survived by one son, Ronnie Hack (Nola); a daughter-in-law, Paula Johnson; four grandchildren, Brandon Hack (Marcie), Corey Hack (Ashleigh), Tiffany Bland (Austin) & Codey Alan Hack; and five great-grandchildren, Gannon Hack, Zoey Gibson, Adalie Hack, Jaxson Bland & Michael Bland. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Daymon Hack; her sister, Goldia; her brother, Roy Edward; and he son, Michael.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, (August 28, 2026) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bros. Corey Hack and Neal Carnes will be officiating. Burial will be in the Sanders Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. Friday until time of services.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff of Grayson Manor for the excellent care they offered Norma Jean in her final year.
