Opal L. Skaggs, age 83, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Friday, (November 14, 2025) at Grayson Manor Nursing and Rehab in Leitchfield, KY.

She was born on July 12, 1942, in Leitchfield, KY, the daughter of the late E.W. (Bulldog) and Lois Hayes Johnson, being one of ten siblings.

Opal was a homemaker, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who really enjoyed her role as matriarch of her family. She married her late husband, Robert (Big Bill) Skaggs in July of 1960.Together they raised two sons, and were blessed with wonderful grandchildren and later great-grandchildren. Opal enjoyed working in her flower garden, with yellow being her favorite color. As a youth she was very athletic and enjoyed different sports; though tiny in size, she was mighty in spirit. She was a member of Clearview Baptist Church.

Opal is survived by her two sons, Gary Skaggs (Tami), and Greg Skaggs of Leitchfield; seven grandchildren, Robert Skaggs (Susan), Lincoln Skaggs (Tara), Kyle Skaggs (Taylor), Kelsie Hughes (Kyle), Bennett Skaggs (Marley), Wyatt Skaggs and Kenzie Skaggs; nine great-grandchildren, Joseph, Andrew, Julia, Archie, Savvy, and Ellis Skaggs, and Ace, Ivie and Onyx Hughes; her sister, Marcella Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Skaggs; seven sisters, Bernice and Virginia Johnson, Juanita Staggs, Lucille Sherrill, Augusta Blair, Catherine Haynes and Lorene Oller; and one brother, Damon Johnson.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Friday, (November 21, 2025) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Chester Shartzer will be officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. Friday until time of services.
