Peggy L. VanMeter, age 85 , of Leitchfield, KY, entered eternal rest Thursday, December 08, 2022.
She was born in Larue County, KY, on November 29, 1937 the daughter of the late Clyde Estill and Edna Meredith Hazelwood. She was united in marriage to Floyd J. VanMeter on June 4, 1955 and shared her life with him for 45 years, prior to his death on August 17, 2000. She retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1993 after 31 years of service.
At the age of 10, she joined the Anneta United Baptist Church and was baptized August 8, 1948. In May 1957 she united with the Mulberry Flats United Baptist Church and remained a member until her death.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Hester (Charles) of Shepherdville, KY; seven grandchildren, Amy Busse (Mark), Arla Wallace (Douglas), Heavenlea Mudd, Aaron Hester (Amy), Kary Mudd, Aric Hester (Breanna), & Anthony Mudd (Kamie); nine great-grandchildren, Patrick, Ian, Cameron, Evan, Jaida, Stori, Aria, Keegan, Emalyn with another on the way. One nephew, Douglas Hazelwood; a dear friend, Paul "P.J." Strange; and a special friend, Lisa Dennis, also survive.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd James VanMeter; a daughter, Enisa Katy Burnett; two brothers, Carl Alfred "C.A." Hazelwood and McKinley Lynn Hazelwood; and a sister, Wanda Clemons.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, (December 15, 2022) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Burial will be in the Mulberry Flats Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until time of services.
