Philip Joe Taylor, age 69, of Caneyville, KY, passed away Sunday, (January 11, 2026) at Owensboro Health in Owensboro, KY.
He was born on June 07, 1956 in Louisville, KY, the son of Joe B. and the late Hazel "Gaynell" Swift Taylor.
He worked for the family business, Caneyville Contractors Inc., and enjoyed all types of motor sports including racing go-carts, drag racing, watching NASCAR, collecting Case knives and farming. He was a member of the Wilson Home General Baptist Church, Leitchfield Masonic Lodge #231, and the Shriners.
He is survived by two sons, Kevin Taylor (Emily) of Caneyville, KY and Brent Taylor (Kayla) of Millerstown, KY; a daughter, Sarah Newton (Jessie) of Lakewood, IL; seven grandchildren, Eli, Evan, Easton, Ezra Joe, Aubrey, Kendall & Kimber; one brother, Mike Taylor (Gayle) of Caneyville; two sisters, Rita Cockrel (Chris) and Anita Bratcher (Steve), also of Caneyville. His father, Joe Taylor of Caneyville, and several nieces also survive.
Other than his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Patty Fleener Taylor, and a nephew Bradley Smith.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, (January 17, 2026) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Burial will be in the Layman Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
