Reba Jean Young, age 81, of Leitchfield, KY passed away Friday, (June 26, 2026) at her residence surrounded by family.
She was born on March 1, 1945, in Yeaman, KY, the daughter of the late Murvel Payton and Ruby Duggins Payton.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother and dedicated homemaker, roles she cherished throughout her life. Later in life she retired from Phar-Shar and Trim-Masters after many years of dedicated work as a floor lady and seamstress. She found great joy in quilting, sewing, gardening, tending to her flowers, cooking and canning. She also enjoyed taking car rides, working puzzles, and especially feeding and watching her birds. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family and loved gathering with those she held dear. She was a former member of the Thomas Homemakers Club and faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher at Yeaman Church of Christ, where she was a lifelong member.
She is survived by one daughter, Penny Payton of Georgetown; two sons, Kevin Young (Marsha) of Leitchfield and Ricky Young (Michelle) of Clarkson; five grandchildren, Jessica Jaggers (Chad), Shelley Bryant (Jared), Holly Thompson, Kaitlyn Hoover (Charles), and Lauren Young; eight great-grandchildren, Ryan, Brylee, Easton, Katie, Harper, Grayson, Landry and Charlee; five sisters, Dena Salmon, Wanda Young (Denver), Peggy Young (Reed), Freda Noblett and Ginger Robinson (Mike). Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Arnold Young of 35 years; her infant brother, Wilbur Lee Payton; her brother, Timmy Payton; her mother’s second husband, Wavy Young; two brothers-in-law Granvil Salmon and Samuel Noblett, and one grandson-in-law, Jesse Thompson.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. CST Thursday, (July 2, 2026) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Denver Young will be officiating. Burial will be in the Leitchfield Memorial Cemetery.
