Obituary

Robert Spurrier, age 94, of Louisville, KY, passed away Wednesday, (January 26, 2011) in Louisville.

He was born on March 2, 1919, in Grayson Co., KY, the son of the late Rector and Frances Muffett Spurrier. Also preceding him in death are his brother, Silas, two sisters, Lucille Morris and Clydia Frances Green and a nephew, Ellis Ray Spurrier.

Robert attended Short Creek High School, Williamsburg (KY) College and taught in the one room schools in Grayson County. He served in the Armed Forces during World War II, serving in combat 2 years and 363 days in Germany and was awarded a Bronze Star. He was elected State Representative from 1960 to 1962. He retired from the Corp of Engineers.

He is survived by three nephews, Orville Green (Cathy) of Millwood, KY, Alan Green of Louisville and David Morris of Tennessee and one niece, Frances Morris Bonn (Bob) of Alabama, his cousins, Bonnie Harrell Blanton of Leitchfield, Willodean Embry of Millwood, Pauline Allen of Richmond, VA, Dr. Bob Allen of Newport News, VA and Joyce Rice of Louisville and several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (January 30, 2011) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Darrell Lyons will be officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and from 9:00 a.m. Sunday until time of services.
