Roberta A. Stevenson, age 84, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Saturday, (January 24, 2015) at Springview Nursing and Rehab in Leitchfield, KY.
She was born on April 28, 1930 in Grayson County, KY, the daughter of the late Stoy and Gladys Decker Downs.
She was a homemaker, who enjoyed cooking, sewing, traveling, picking up shells at the beach, and spending time with her family. She made a legendary chess pie that has yet to be duplicated by any of her family members, (and we have all tried). She married the love of her life, Harley Stevenson, Sr. on April 23, 1946, after three short weeks of courtship. She began her life serving Christ at the age of eleven. She was a charter member of the Church of Joy in Leitchfield where she loved to volunteer, and once held the office of Sunday School Treasurer.
She is survived by her husband of almost 69 years, Harley Stevenson, Sr.; two sons, Glefus Stevenson (Shirley), and Harley Stevenson, Jr. (Cindy); two daughters, Patricia Elmore (Howard), and Beverly Stevenson, all of Leitchfield; seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tabetha Shawn Valera, a great-grandson, Justin Blake Elmore, and a great-great-grandson, James Earl Thomas Smiley (JET).
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, (January 27, 2015) at the Church of Joy in Leitchfield. Bro. Nathan Lowe, Bro. Donald Farris, and Bro. Dwayne Lowe will be officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, until time of services at the church.
