Ruby Nell Layman, age 79, of Caneyville, KY, passed away Sunday, (December 17, 2023) at her residence with her loving family by her side.

She was born on December 31, 1943 in Spring Lick, KY, the daughter of the late Clarence and Elsie Patterson Crume.

She retired as a deputy clerk for the Grayson County Clerk's office after serving for almost 16 years.  Ruby enjoyed reading, gardening, crafts and attending church and all church activities. She deeply loved her family and her great-grandchildren were extra special to her. She married the love of her life, Bill Layman, on August 31, 1963. She was a member of the Short Creek Homemakers Club and was also a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, Bill Layman; children, Tim Layman, Steve Layman (Donna) all of Caneyville and Marcha Highbaugh (Jerry) of Falls of Rough; three grandchildren, Courtney Embry (Matt), Meghan Probus (Stephen), and Caleb Highbaugh (Haley); six great-grandchildren, Sadie Probus, Connor Probus, and Della Probus, Riley Embry, Regan Embry and Waylon Embry; two brothers, James Crume (Cathy) and Phillip Crume (Judy); and several nieces and nephews.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Crume.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 23, 2023) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Jason Alexander, Bro. Blake Newton and Bro. Austin Wade will be officiating. Burial will be in the Layman Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
