Samuel J. Hawkins, age 72, of Clarkson, KY, passed away Tuesday, (September 17, 2019) at his home in Clarkson.

He was born on December 5, 1946 in Grayson County, KY, the son of the late Spurgeon and Agnes Skaggs Hawkins.

He retired from the Louisville Fire Department where he worked as an arson investigator. He graduated from Clarkson High School in 1965. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He enjoyed farming, and bird hunting, especially pheasant and quail. He was married to Belinda Helm Hawkins, and together they have 3 great children and 8 precious grandchildren. He was a member of the Clarkson United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Belinda Hawkins of Clarkson; children, Scott Hawkins (Tez) of Leitchfield, Lee Cissell (a special friend, Rhonda) of Florida, and Gail Newsome (Bert) of Clarkson; and his grandchildren, Tyler, Zack, Garrett, Ty, Dain, Jett, Maelee and Samantha.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Hawkins and his sister, Betty Whobrey.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, (September 21, 2019) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Mickey Coates will be officiating. Burial will be in the Clarkson Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
