Rev. Vanley "Bug" Franklin, age 90, of Clarkson, KY, passed away Thursday, (March 25, 2010) at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY.
He was born on November 26, 1919, in Grayson Co. KY, the son of the late Clifford and Maude Haycraft Franklin. He was a Missionary Baptist minister and retired from Fabricated Metals in Louisville in 1983 and was a member of the Sulphur Wells Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Bell Whitman Franklin, three sons, Danny Ray (Kim) of Manteno, IL, Jerry Wayne (Karen) of Clarkson and Randy Franklin (Cheryl) of Louisville, KY, three daughters, Christine Starke of Ft. Meyers, FL, Nancy Head (Chris) of Louisville, and Elaine Easto (Charles) of New York, NY, one sister, Fannie Hayse of Shelbyville, KY, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by two children, Thomas "Tom" Lee Franklin and Mary Kathleen Franklin, two brothers, Pat and Delbert Franklin, five sisters, Estelle Smith, Leoma Williams, Louise Watson, Bernice and Elaine Skaggs.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Sunday (March 28, 2010) at the Sulphur Wells Missionary Baptist Church. Bro. Leland Childress will be officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. Saturday and at Sulphur Wells Missionary Baptist from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and on Sunday until time of services.
