Veeda B. Embry, age 89, of Caneyville, KY, passed away Sunday, (August 09, 2026) at the Heartford House in Owensboro, KY.
She was born on June 29, 1937 in Tilford, KY, the daughter of the late Ben and Artie Embry. Veeda was the kindest and sweetest Momma, Mammaw/Mammie and friend. She was always there for everyone that needed her. She was, for sure, one of a kind. She always treated her grandkids equally – if she got something for one, she did it for all of them. She was always there for her kids, and you could feel the love that she had for her family.
She worked as a cook for the Grayson County School System and was a lifelong member of Welches Creek Baptist Church. Veeda enjoyed sitting around at her house with family and friends drinking coffee. She has left behind a lot of great memories that will be cherished by her family forever.
She was married to the late Frankie Embry and they were blessed with four children, Rose Mollyhorn & Ricky Embry (Libby), both of Caneyville, KY, Diana Embry (Chad) & Christy Hammers (Jamie), both of Morgantown, KY; 11 grandchildren, Amy (Cameron), Stacey (Philip), Kelly (Nate), Brittany (Trevor), Brent (Lauren), Morgan, Dylan, Alyssa, David Jr., Chris (Tiffany) & Jennifer (Jimmy); 14 great-grandchildren; Garrett, Chaz, Mason, Kimber, Korben, Jack, Gracie, Edith, Alexis, Alanna, Jaxon, Wyatt, Presley & Kinsley; two great-great-grandchildren, Kyler & Emerson; and one sister, Gertie Garr. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant grandchildren; a son-in-law, Phillip; five sisters, Nita, Opal, Virgie, Gail, & Sue; and one brother, Ken.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, (August 15, 2026) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. TJ Howard will be officiating. Burial will be in the Welches Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
