Obituary
Verlene E. Powell, age 88, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Saturday, (September 8, 2012) at the Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
She was born on September 8, 1924 in Short Creek, KY, the daughter of the late Ottie and Osie Wilson Edwards.
She was a Housewife and mother and was a member of the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
She is survived by 3 sons, Jim Powell (Judy) of Maceo, KY, Bob Powell (Vicky) of Leitchfield, KY and Ron Powell (Gwynn) of Bowling Green, KY, 1 daughter, Rita Rooker (Ken) of Martinsville, IN, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Gerene Kersey and Patsy Swift, both of Leitchfield, KY and Dorothy Shain of Louisville, KY and 1 brother, Daymon Edwards of Louisville, KY.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. Powell, 3 brothers Jesse Elmer, Cecil, and Edgar Wayne Edwards and 1 sister, Mary Lucille Edwards.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, (September 11, 2012) at Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Dustin Lewis will be officiating. Burial will be in the Shady Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 9:00 p.m. on Monday and from 9:00 am. Tuesday until time of services.
