He was a retired school teacher who enjoyed singing and reading; He was a past Royal Patron of Amaranth, a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a member of the First United (Longfield) Baptist Church in Louisville, KY.
Virgil served in the Navy during World War 2 from 1943 to 1946. Three of his brothers also served at the same time. He was on the ship USS Wintle (a destroyer escort) and stayed on ship except for 6 months during his tour.

They lived in Lexington until he finished his teaching degree. Then they moved back to Louisville where he taught school until his retirement.
A few years ago they moved back to Leitchfield as his wife's health deteriorated with Alzheimer's and it became necessary for him to have help with her care. He continued with helping of her care but had become limited this past year as his mobility and health has declined.
Virgil was a very kind and caring man and was always ready to help anyone in need. He also loved to sing and sang in quartets and shared that talent with lots of others. He will certainly be missed by many.
