W. D. "Don" Phelps, age 78, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Thursday (February 16, 2017) at the Commonwealth Regional Specialty Hospital in Bowling Green.
He was born on January 11, 1939, in Bonnieville, KY, the son of the late James Marion and Elsie Greene Caswell Phelps.
He was retired from Phillip Morris Tobacco Company. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, hunting, and all outdoor activities. He was an avid U.K. Wildcat fan. He was a member of the Leitchfield Masonic Lodge, and was a member of AA for thirty-three years. He was a member of the House of Prayer Church in Upton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn June Poole Phelps of Leitchfield; son, Mark A. Phelps and his wife, Virginia Miller-Phelps of Clarkson; brother, Larry G. Key and his wife, Theresa, of Louisville; granddaughter, Leeann Phelps, nieces and nephews, Larry C. Key, Andrea G. Key, Adam M. Key, and Miriam H. Moore; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenny Phelps.
Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, (February 21, 2017) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Burial will be in the KY Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff on Wednesday (February 22, 2017) at 10:00 a.m. CST.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday and from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until time of services.
