Woodrow Miller, 91, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2008 at his home in Elizabethtown after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
He was born at home in a small rural community known as Waldo located in Magoffin County, KY to Boyd and Rachel Bailey Miller. He served in the Air Core during WWII. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1950 with a degree in agriculture. On July 23, 1949, he married his college sweetheart at the First Baptist Church in Jeffersonville, IN. He was dean of boys and farm manager at Magoffin Baptist Institute. He attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and Morehead State College in Morehead, KY. He pastored several small country churches in Grayson and surrounding counties, after teaching middle school science for 23 years, he retired from the Grayson County School System in 1981.
He was a member of the Elizabethtown Baptist Church and a former member of Falls of Rough Baptist Church. He was a member of the Grayson County Retired Teachers Association., He enjoyed raising mallard ducks and fishing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, the former Wilma Jean Wathen; five daughters, Kathy Lowe (Audrey) of Elizabethtown, Kay Decker (Damon) of Leitchfield, Janice Williams (Randy) of Elizabethtown, Marilyn Snell (Darrell) of Beaver Dam, Jo Ann Dowell (Wayne) of Hardinsburg; a son Gregory Miller of Leitchfield; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his sister Lonie Allen of LaPorte, IN, several nieces and nephews.
His parents, eight brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
A service to celebrate Mr. Miller's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. (CST) on Tuesday at the Dermitt Funeral Home, at 306 West Main Street in Leitchfield, KY. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. -9:00 p.m. (CST) on Monday. Bro. Danny Haynes and Bro. Roger Allen will be officiating. Burial will be in the Leitchfield Memory Gardens.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Tender Touch Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care of Mr. Miller during his illness.
