Our Story
Rev. Edward Dermitt started his funeral career when he worked for the Tom Ellis Funeral Home in Leitchfield. In August of 1969, Bro. Dermitt bought an existing house at 306 West Main St. in Leitchfield and remodeled this house into a funeral establishment. Bro. Dermitt and his two sons Jerry and Roger, began this partnership as the Dermitt Funeral Home. In April of 1971, we purchased a home in Caneyville where Jerry and Judy Dermitt moved their family to serve the families in the western part of Grayson County and remained there until their retirement and the Caneyville location was sold.
Roger and Chris Dermitt, continued to operate the funeral home at the original location the way they did when it started decades ago. In 2017, their youngest son, Daniel Dermitt, took over and owns and operates the funeral home today. Roger and Chris Dermitt's oldest granddaughter, Samantha Bullock, also works at the funeral home as a funeral director and embalmer making the fourth generation of the Dermitt family. The staff continues to strive to make our business seem like a home right from the beginning.
